Why Residency is Important
The Town collects very little in property taxes. For example, a $300,000 home brings the Town approximately $40 each year. Additional property taxes are paid to other government entities such as Douglas County
, the Douglas County Library District and Douglas County School District.
To find out if your home is in our municipal boundaries, call the Douglas County Assessor's Office, 303-660-7450. If you pay property taxes to Castle Rock, your property is located within Town boundaries, and you are eligible for a Resident Discount Card. If not, your property may be in unincorporated Douglas County, and you would pay nonresident rates.

Town services are primarily funded through municipal sales tax, which is 3.6 percent of the 7.5 percent you’ll pay in local sales tax. Therefore, the Town encourages residents to ensure quality services by shopping locally.
