History of Water Conservation
Watering restrictions and demand management
The Town has been on watering restrictions since 1985. These restrictions are not so much a water savings program as a demand-management tool that helps stagger peak water usage over several days. Castle Rock’s every-third-day / specific hours watering program begins every year in May and continues through August or September. By staggering water use, we spread out the demand on the system. If everyone watered their lawns at the same time, the system could not deliver enough water for that purpose or any other - including fighting a fire at your home. The alternative would be to overbuild the system at an enormous expense just to meet the summertime demand.
