Stormwater
Stormwater is water from rainfalls and snowfalls. Stormwater that does not soak into the ground enters into storm sewers – a big part of the Town’s stormwater system.

A flat stormwater fee is charged for residential customers. This fee covers the cost of operation, upgrades, maintenance and improvements of the Town’s storm drainage facilities.

In addition to properly directing stormwater, the Stormwater Division works on flood control, water quality protection and waterway management. The Clean Water Act and Federal Emergency Management Agency floodplain regulations govern a lot of that work.

Another driver of projects is the Town’s Stormwater Master Plan, adopted in 2004. The division has plans for all 54 of the Town’s drainageways, which identify areas that could potentially have long-term problems because of existing and future development. Those problems are addressed as funding is available.

In addition to waterway management, the stormwater staff works with individual residents on drainage problems and with the public on water quality protection education. Learn more about this effort.
