Imagine the possibilities for Philip S. Miller Park

Imagine the possibilities of a 225-acre park that has 3.5 million people within a 30-minute drive.

That’s what the Town needs residents and other interested persons to do as it drafts the master plan for the upcoming Philip S. Miller Park, along Plum Creek Parkway south of The Meadows.

Design of the park is kicking off in earnest this month with two open houses, where attendees will be introduced to the property as well as to potential activities that could be developed there.

The park will be constructed in multiple phases over many years, with the first phase planned to kick off in 2013.

Potential activities for the park include unique amenities like cultural arts venues or an outdoor adventure park, in addition to traditional play and athletic features.

“This is a fundamentally different park than what we have done in the past few years,” said Town Parks Planning Superintendent Jeff Smullen.

Instead of a neighborhood focus, the park will be built with the intent of being a regional draw.

Initial concepts for the park will be presented at the open house sessions in attempt to garner feedback that can be used in developing the master plan.

The meetings will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 25, and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, both at Town Hall, 100 N. Wilcox St. The open house format means attendees can drop in at any time.

Those interested in providing feedback need only to attend one of the meetings. Those who cannot make it can view information and then react to it online at CRgov.com/PSMPark.

Additional opportunities for public comment will occur as construction of the first phase nears.
